Can the fragrance you wear make you appear younger?

Apparently yes!!

Some women can spend quite a bit of money purchasing anti-aging cosmetics and skin care products. Now, for those of us so inclined, we can add fragrance to our anti-ageing arsenal – but not just any fragrance. Only 1 smell has currently been identified to have this effect.

Our sense of smell is often not given much of a second thought. We often become acutely aware of it when we smell something malodorous or when we suddenly get transported back in time from an odour that triggers a powerful scent memory. Research suggests that certain odours can actually influence our behaviour or alter our perceptions. One such perception that can potentially be altered is the age a woman looks to a man if she is wearing a particular scent.

Research by Alan B Hirsch of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago has identified a particular scent that will have men perceiving a woman to be up to 6 years younger than what she really is!

Tell me, tell me what is it? I can hear you all asking. It’s …. grapefruit. Yep, that’s right. If a man gets a whiff of this on you he’s going to apparently think you are up to 6 years younger. You won’t actually look younger, but you’ll be perceived to be younger.

As luck would have it, I have put pink grapefruit essential oil in 2 of my natural perfumes: 050 Rose, Honeysuckle and Sandalwood and 020 Frangipani and Honeysuckle which can be purchased at the èrlithe online shop.

  • Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables (avoid the junk – cut out/down sugar)
  • Exercise
  • Get adequate sleep
  • Don’t smoke or drink alcohol to excess
  • Wear sunscreen
  • Use natural skincare/make-up
  • Have a positive outlook on life
  • AND of course spritz yourself with an èrlithe natural eau de parfum containing pink grapefruit!
